Book Review – Why Can’t I Lose Weight? The real reasons diets fail and what to do about it

Every once in a while, I read a book that captures my attention so completely that I hate to put it down. Then I come back to it repeatedly, long after I’ve finished the review. The 116-page eBook by Jackie Bushell, Why I can not lose weight? (2006 DietPlateau.com) is such a book.

There are tons of diet books out there claiming to have the “secrets” to weight loss, or the supplement or dietary plan that is the long-awaited magic wand. Many are gimmicks, some are completely misleading, and some just touch on problems but offer no real solutions. Not the case with Why I can not lose weight?.

I found this eBook to be packed with practical, medically based answers to many of my questions about weight loss, plateaus, healthy fat loss, metabolism, and that all-important question of why does the weight come back so often? , no matter how “good” it is. I’m on my diet for the day.

Based on long-term research and study of an impressive list of health and medical reference sources, Bushell writes about the changing theories of diet and exercise, addresses diet fads, fads, and trends, and introduces information based on biochemistry and documented scientific facts. His goal is to start with facts and discard misleading and misunderstood data, along with outdated beliefs. In his book, he presents his readers with current, relevant, and proven facts about low-calorie, low-fat, low-carb, and low-glycemic diets. Written in an easy-to-read manner, this book helps clear the fog of myths and unsubstantiated claims and sheds a logical and detailed light on diet and healthy weight loss facts.

This direct and honest statement of his conclusion sums up the philosophy, tone, and mission of his book: “Getting your body fit to lose weight is about getting your body healthy overall, and that takes time and patience. Being healthy isn’t about quick fixes, and neither is losing weight successfully. Making sure you lose the right kind of weight in the right way is key to ensuring that when weight is lost, it is kept off.”

There are 15 chapters and three appendices that include detailed topics and “secrets” on:

Author Jackie Bushell is dedicated to the message in her book. As she said she at the end, “So what I hope I’ve accomplished with this book is to bring together all of the most important knowledge and new ideas related specifically to weight loss issues, tossing out the many ideas that aren’t backed by science.” Personally, I think he has succeeded.

While reading your e-book, I was amazed at the dedication and depth of research you put into the project. There is no doubt that she is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about this topic, and her list of resources supports her work. Why I can not lose weight? It contains a lot of common sense and medically backed nutritional information that is applicable to many frustrated dieters like myself. I experienced many “aha!” moments while reading the pages.
