How to clean kitchen countertops

Kitchen counters are a highly visible place in your kitchen, they are used for food preparation.

You should wash the countertop completely with dishwashing liquid and a cloth or sponge after each time you handle food on the countertop. Then rinse the countertop in hot water and clean with paper towels.

Special attention should be paid after handling raw meat or fish. Wash the surface to remove debris, apply a mixture of bleach and hot water to the countertop, let it sit for at least 5 minutes. Then rinse well with hot water and pat dry. Please read the chemical safety instructions carefully before starting, a pair of chemical resistant gloves should be worn to protect your skin from toxic solutions.

Different types of counter surfaces require different treatments. Laminated plastic countertop is a cost-effective option, it is widely used today. For polished or laminated surfaces, avoid using metal scouring pads that will scratch the surface. You can clean with a soapy sponge and general purpose cleaner, do not use an abrasive cleaner that may damage your countertop. To remove stains, such as juice, coffee, use baking soda on a soft cloth, wipe gently. Then rinse with clean water.

Some countertops are non-porous and have a matte finish, most of them are stain resistant so they are very easy to clean, you can clean stains and burn marks with powdered cleaners. Because Corian is made of acrylic and natural materials, it is solid instead of a thin layer, you can use a plastic scourer to scrub our burns.

Notes:

Burn marks or laminated or polished surfaces are permanent. If the burn mark is especially noticeable, consider replacing the affected section with a section of glass.

Never place hot pans directly on counter surfaces. Strong acidic cleaners such as oven, toilet bowl and drain cleaners should not be used on countertops.
