What Are CEUS For Nurses?
CEs for advanced practice registered nurses are mandatory in order to practice as an APRN. If you fail to maintain your certification, you cannot practice as an APRN anymore. If you are planning on renewing your nursing license, you must submit proof of continuing education (CE) hours. You can do this by mailing your completed CE certificates to the board. Some states require RNs to complete two cycles of CEs if they wish to stay in practice.
CE courses are free and accredited by the ANCC. These courses are available online and are 100% free of charge for registered nurses. The purpose of continuing education units for nurses is to improve the nursing profession and keep it current. For this reason, most states have their own standards for CEUs. General education courses don’t count as CEUs in most states. A general education course, such as an introductory nursing course, does not count as CEUs.
In order to receive continuing education credits, nurses must complete courses that have at least 10 CEUs. These courses should be offered by a qualified CE provider. Depending on where you work, CEUs can be obtained through online courses or hands-on labs.
