Bathroom Floor Plans – The Foundation of Your Bathroom Remodeling Project

Bathroom plans are literally the starting point for any bathroom remodeling project of any significant size. If your entire project consists of a set of new bathroom fixtures, like a new toilet, a new vanity/counter/sink combo, then you really don’t need extensive bathroom plans. You are simply replacing one toilet with another, one sink with another.

But if your project is a rip-and-rebuild type of complete bathroom remodel project, then you’ll definitely want to start by building a set of bathroom floor plans.

It’s easier than it sounds, believe me.

What you need to do is make a freehand sketch of what the shape of the floor looks like in your bathroom. This is the beginning of your bathroom floor plans. Don’t worry about being too “rough” at this point. Just get the freehand sketch that looks more or less like your floor plan.

Next, get a helper and a 25-foot tape measure (and get a good one – cheap tools produce bad results). Take measurements of all the different parts of your drawing and write them on your sketch.

Now you want to get a basic graph paper, with ¼” squares, and transform your sketch into a full scale drawing. Just take the total size of the bathroom and the size of your paper. Now you can decide what scale your drawing needs to be. Let’s say which has a smaller bathroom, no shower or tub, just a “half bath. It’s about 8 ft x 8 ft. If you’re using standard 8 ½” x 11″ graph paper, you might say one inch on the drawing a scale would represent one foot actual size.

Most drawings are done at a ¼” scale. ¼” on graph paper equals one foot actual size.

Get your drawing to scale as accurate as possible; remember that it is the starting point of your entire bathroom remodeling project. The bathroom plans are the basis of your project.

Once you’ve finished your scale drawing, you should have about a dozen copies. Now you can experiment with your bathroom design on copied bathroom floor plans and you’ll be off to a great start on your bathroom remodeling project. All of that by making your bathroom floor plans.
