How to Work Out Abs Without Crunches

Health and fitness experts and professionals have spoken: To lose stomach fat and get sexy, flat abs, eat healthy, perform full-body exercises, and yes, do some crunches. But working your abs and developing a six pack, which many people desire, is not limited to the famous and regular abdominal exercises like crunches. There are other types of exercises and activities that are not only great for your abs, but are also good for your health.

Train your abs by staying active! Start a cardiovascular exercise routine. This helps burn calories to provide energy and lose fat. If you like the gym, hit the treadmill; if you like the water, swim or paddle early in the morning. Link with nature: run, walk in the park or ride a bike. Try to do any of these cardio exercises for 30 minutes at least three times a week. Lifting weights and strength training can burn calories and also help burn fat, so they’re great for working out your abs.

In addition to these exercises or workout routines, you can focus on non-traditional abdominal toning exercises/activities that can help work out your abs. Do Pilates exercises! Pilates exercises, such as the “toe dip”; “circle of legs”; “crisscross”; “leg kick”; “back extension with rotation” and “lateral flexion” works all the abdominal muscles. Like Pilates, belly dancing is also a good way to work your abs as it focuses on strengthening your core. In belly dancing, you work your abs hard while isolating your hips from your ribs. Do the “twist twist,” “single leg stretch,” “modified scissors,” “hip circles,” and “rolls” for 15 minutes, five days a week, and you’ll have a lean, toned tummy.
