Driving Tips: Car Maintenance Checklist

Are you a responsible driver?

Being a responsible driver doesn’t just mean keeping your eyes wide open and watching the road, or avoiding traffic in the most defensive way possible. It could also mean that you are concerned about your overall driving experience, starting with the physical condition of your vehicle. Making sure your car is running smoothly, through regular maintenance and checkups, can be the difference between life and death on the road.

Here is a basic checklist for you to review and follow:

A. Check your oil, fuel and air in your tires. Make sure the meters are working fine. If they are broken, have them repaired. Also make sure you don’t overfill your oil. Due to the pressure in the vehicle, this can damage your oil seal and lead to massive leaks, which can cause further problems with various parts of your vehicle.

b. Clean your air filters regularly. If your air filters are clogged, it can lead to lower or insufficient combustion. This process, in turn, increases the pollution your vehicle produces on the road.

against Check if your treads are uneven or if your tires need extra air. Be sure to swap damaged tires for worn ones, especially if you plan to travel long distances. Make sure you have an original part, if you can afford to invest in one. It is never wise to carry a pictured spare tire, or even a top notch imitation of the original. These can easily break if you plan to travel on rough roads.

d. If you can afford it, have your car serviced regularly. Be sure to grease the moving parts of your vehicle to prevent wear from friction and impacts. Check the parts of your vehicle as you wash it so you can see if you need to remove and replace worn parts.

my. Take extra tools and a repair kit with you when you plan to go on a long trip. Make sure you have your mechanic’s number on speed dial, and always remember to check your vehicle before you leave.
