World of Warcraft has 11.5 million active Wow accounts that transmit data daily through Blizzard Entertainment’s servers. With fast-paced life and economic problems like financial crisis giving everyone headaches, we turn to different forms of entertainment like massively multiplayer role-playing games or MMORPGs to escape from reality and live a virtual life. While users come from all walks of life, have their own playstyles and preferences for how they want to play, I’ve compiled a list of 3 races that make up the majority of active WoW accounts:
1) The humans of Stormwind
According to a Warcraft online census, there are 1,450,112 or 18% of the total WoW accounts using this run. On the eastern continent of Azeroth, these survivors of the Second War between the Alliance of Lordaeron and the original Horde continue to defend their territory from any enemy.
After so much fighting in the Second War, the humans did not have enough time to breathe as the Scourge, with their legions of undead, soon began their invasion and laid waste to the northern kingdom of Lordaeron. The Burning Legion made things much more complicated, as these demons planned to throw World of Warcraft into a state of total chaos. Of course, we have the usual story of good triumphing over evil, and Stormwind City was rebuilt as the last area where peace reigned and life flourished for a while. By the time the Wrath of the Lich King expansion was released, 12-year-old Anduin Wynn would have to rule the place because his father, Varian, mysteriously disappeared. Are Varian wow accounts banned?
2) The night elves of Darnassus
The Warcraft census states that 1,297,234 or 17% of the total WoW accounts play this race. The night elves were the first race in World of Warcraft. They studied magic and used it recklessly everywhere around 10,000 years before the first Warcraft game. This youthful behavior drew the denizens of the Burning Legion into the world and sparked a war destructive enough to eliminate both sides.
The Night Elves were able to get rid of the bad guys, but the war made a great disaster in their homeland and drowned it under water. Just like Japan after the atomic bomb, the Night Elves hid from the world (imagine players using their wow accounts and playing on their bases). They slept atop Hyjal Mountain for decades until the Burning Legion returned for another round. To ensure that Azeroth continued to survive, the night elves came to associate with other races, even if they do not trust them and consider the other races to be inferior in comparison to them.
3) The blood elves of the city of Silvermoon
This race is currently played by 1,286,037 or 16% of the total WoW accounts according to the Warcraft census. These people used to be known as High Elves. Their night elf cousins worshiped the moon, while the high elves worshiped the sun. It’s interesting to note that Night Elves have dark purple skin compared to High Elves, who should be darker from all that sun worship (then the people who use their wow accounts often also have pale skin). They have a sad story to tell, as the Scourge basically wiped out most of their population and killed their leader, Anasterian Sunstrider. The survivors were renamed Blood Elves by Kael’thas, son of Anasterian, who wanted revenge against the Scourge.
Personally, I think people like Blood Elves because of their resemblance to the Lord of the Rings type Legolas, but it’s up to players to decide which race they want on their WoW accounts.
